What Is Net Metering?
Net metering is the arrangement used for an on-grid solar PV system connected to the utility network. Solar electricity is used first by the home, villa, office or facility while it is being generated. The treatment of any surplus electricity, including export, metering and bill settlement, depends on the applicable utility requirements and the approved project arrangement.
How an On-Grid Solar System Works
During daylight hours, solar panels produce DC electricity. The inverter converts it into AC electricity for use by the connected property. When solar generation is lower than site demand, the property continues to draw electricity from the grid. System performance and potential savings depend on the load profile, operating hours, available roof area and approved system capacity.
Net Metering Requirements in Abu Dhabi and Dubai
Grid-connected solar projects must be designed and installed in line with the requirements applicable to the project location. These may cover equipment selection, system capacity, protection settings, export or zero-export conditions, metering, documentation, inspection and commissioning.
